James is the lead editor of Connecting Europe Express and our resident specialist on European iGaming law and international tourism. He studied law at KU Leuven and earned a doctorate in European regulatory law from Maastricht University, with a focus on the fragmentation of online gambling regulation across EU member states. He spent several years in Brussels as a policy adviser working on consumer protection and the regulation of digital platforms, before moving into independent analysis and editorial work. He writes and speaks regularly on licensing regimes (UKGC, MGA, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Curaçao, Anjouan), post-Brexit consumer rights, and responsible-gambling frameworks. At Connecting Europe Express he leads editorial direction and personally reviews every piece of legal or regulatory content before publication. Outside his editorial work, James is a committed slow traveller — he covered much of the original Connecting Europe Express rail journey on his own time and remains an advocate for European rail tourism. He divides his time between Brussels and Ghent.
